Northwestern Ontario produces about 900,00 ounces of gold and 200,000 ounces of palladium in the year of 2016. There is suppose to be a new gold mine going into production in the year of 2017 ( Thunderbay.ca ) . The production rate will be 325,000 ounces of gold per year. Some major mining projects are led by gold but also include ; lithium, graphite, diamonds, palladium, nickel and copper.
Secondary: The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund has recently given $500000 towards the equipment and lab setup. Right after FedNor invested $390000 in February of 2012. There is also support coming from the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission and Kam Valley.
